TECHNICAL SUPPORT

PRESERVING NEW LASER PAPER PRODUCTS

  1. Laser products should remain stored in the original carton, which has been treated to protect the unused portion against moisture.
  2. Best results are obtained if products are stored and used in temperatures from 63 to 73 degrees Fahrenheit (17 to 23 degrees Celsius), and 40% to 50% relative humidity.
  3. Paper Should not be stored directly on the floor since that increases the possibility of moisture absorption.
  4. Excessive curl due to high moisture levels can be salvaged sometimes by storing the paper in a dry environment for several days.
  5. Paper conditioning is necessary if paper being stored is moved into a different temperature or humidity level. It is suggested that you remove from storage what you anticipate on using in a day, and leave it out one day prior to being used.

CARE and CLEANING of INFORMATIONAL SYSTEMS

Think of the size of investment in your office hardware. Give consideration to the time
and effort that goes into fully exploiting its possibilities. It's surprising how
unsystematic the approach to keeping hardware clean and protecting from static.
When office equipment is systematically cleaned and cared for it will:

Perform Better

Last Longer

Create a more productive and pleasant
working environment

A systematic cleaning and care program need not be complicated, time-consuming or
expensive. Simple, quickly carried out routines that soon become a habit, and the right
products, specifically designed to do their individual job, are all that is needed.

Problem: Dirt and oxide buildup on read/write heads causes errors in loading and
                 backing up information.
Solution: Use head cleaning kits regularly to remove dirt and oxide and protect the
                 integrity of important data.

Problem: Dust and dirt on computer screen, housings, keyboards and mouse reduce
                 productivity.

Solution: Get rid of dust and dirt quickly and safely with kits designed specifically for
                 use on computers.

A WORD ABOUT RIBBONS

Ribbons have a shelf life of approximately 6 months. Just like bread on a grocers shelf
or tomatoes in the produce section... ink ribbons are a perishable item. They must
remain sealed in their plastic container until ready for use.

The amount of material on a spool or in a cartridge may vary from one manufacturer
to another. For example: an Epson ERC-03 cartridge ribbon from one manufacturer
may contain 36 feet of ribbon while from another it may only contain 29 feet. That is
   a 20% difference... is there a 20% price difference?

Material quality can also vary. One grade of nylon or cotton will retain a larger
quantity of ink than another thus adding to or subtracting from the life of a ribbon.
One may last longer than the other due to the quality of the nylon or cotton. It's the
same old story... you get what you pay for. In many cases, as price varies so does
the length and quality of the ribbon.

   Guidelines for purchasing ribbons...
          1. Ask for ribbon length.
          2. Does that particular ribbon come with a re-inker feature?
          3. Is the ribbon classified as "long-life"?
          4. Is there a guarantee?
          5. Are the ribbons "factory fresh"?

A ribbon that is fraying could damage a printer. Particles of the ribbon fabric that are
breaking away can, in time, clog the print mechanism. Immediate replacement is
suggested! Squeezing as much life as possible out of a ribbon is to invite equipment
   failure.

To minimize printer problems this technical support strongly suggests following OEM
   (Original Equipment Manufacturer) recommendations.

Minimize customer/office complaints and printer problems... CHANGE RIBBONS OFTEN!

As a business person you are acutely aware of the importance of a legible receipt
for tax purposes. Your customers and employees will appreciate a receipt or tape
  they can read.

A WORD ABOUT PAPER PRODUCTS

This type of product should be stored in a cool dry environment.

The amount of paper on a roll may vary from one manufacturer to another. In many
cases, as price varies so does the length and quality of the paper on a roll.

A standard roll of "Lint-FREE" Quality Bond Paper will measure 3 1/8" in diameter and
contain approximately 198 feet of paper. A lesser grade of paper will approach the
same roll diameter but only contain 165 feet of paper and of course, an even poorer
grade of paper will only contain 150 feet of paper. A bond paper of "Lint-FREE" quality
is 3 mil thick and has a very smooth finish which minimizes the accumulation of paper
dust in your business machine printers. The thickness of lesser quality papers will
vary between 3.5 and 4.5 mil. Use of the thicker papers may in time prevent the
ability to return back to a "Lint-FREE" Quality Bond Paper as the rubber paper feed
rollers and tension springs have taken a set to the thicker paper.

This guideline does not infer or suggest that all rolls of paper at 165 or 150 feet/roll
are of sub-standard quality. It does suggest the buyer beware, read product labels
   and ask questions.

To further clarify our point, the white powder found in and around a printer is paper
dust. Its accumulation in a printer is in direct relationship to paper quality! A quality
bond paper reduces the potential for printer problems and breakdowns. To minimize
printer problems follow OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) recommendations.

Hundreds, even thousands, of dollars are spent yearly on service calls to correct
paper feed problems in copiers and fax machines. Often times the problem is the
paper. Take a stack of paper loaded into the hopper of a copy machine. The copier,
in most cases, expects the top sheet of paper to slide freely across the next sheet
below it. With a good quality bond paper that's exactly what happens. Lower the
grade of paper, the roughness of the paper may cause one sheet to catch on the
next thus feeding two, three or more sheets at one time.

Humidity can also be a factor to check before calling a service representative. One
final note about copy paper... the label at the end of the ream will often suggest
which side of the paper should be copied on first.

Once again, our best advise in the way of technical support is to minimize printer
problems by following OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) recommendations.
